CAPTAIN LON MUNSEY |

Lon Munsey was born and raised in
Maine where he developed an intense love of the sea.
He attended Maine Maritime Academy where he earned a
BS in Marine Engineering in 1972 and later obtained
a USCG 500-ton Master's License.
Enterprising, enthusiastic and energetic with great
organizational skills, Lon owned and operated a
yacht management and delivery company in Key Largo,
Florida for ten years and participated in a number
of yacht management projects in Honduras and
Guatemala. His knowledge of Caribbean and US waters,
including the Great Lakes, Alaska and the Pacific
Northwest, is extensive. He navigated Askari
from Trinidad to Australia during a 13 month
charter visiting numerous anchorages in the
South Pacific.
Lon has been with the owners of Askari for fourteen years
and directed/managed the two-year refit undertaken
when the yacht was purchased in 1998. A
perfectionist and workaholic by everyone's
standards, he rarely takes time off but when he
does, he can be found on his own sailboat in the Caribbean
or at his cabin overlooking the Kennebec River in
the woods of Maine. An adventurer and outdoorsman,
Lon enjoys all water sports, especially windsurfing
and kayaking. He loves exploring wilderness areas
whether it be on foot or by mountain bike,
increasing his already vast knowledge of flora and
fauna.
Lon is extremely affable with a wonderful sense of
humor and has as his highest priority the comfort,
safety and enjoyment of Askari's guests.

RODRIGO OLSON

Born in Mexico, Rodrigo has spent his life sailing the Oceans of the world in search of some of the planet's most elusive whale species. He has a degree in Oceanography and has been involved with many research and filming expeditions worldwide. Notably, he was Captain of the famous research vessel 'Odyssey' which spent five years studying marine mammals around the globe. As Captain of a number of luxury sailing yachts, he has spent many years sailing in the Pacific, Indian and Atlantic Oceans, the Caribbean Sea and the Mediterranean. In addition to his Oceanography degree, his
qualifications include Yachtmaster Ocean, US Certified Ocean Lifeguard and PADI Advanced Open Water.
When not acting as Relief Captain on Askari, Rodrigo travels the world doing ocean research and filming marine life. Keen on all water sports, his hobbies also include kite-surfing, horse-riding and snow-skiing.

CLAUD AKERS
FIRST MATE/ENGINEER |

Claud grew up in a small fishing village in South Africa not far from Cape Town where he spent two years in the south African navy as an engineer. He sailed with a friend from
Cape Town to Brazil, a challenging adventure that took them four weeks. Claud crewed and worked as an engineer on a few boats in South America before joining the Askari refit team in 2000. He knows the complete workings of Askari from fuel tanks to mast head. He is STCW compliant and a PADI Divemaster. Laser sailing is
Claud's favorite water sport, a patient and enthusiastic instructor always eager to assist those who need assistance. He is a fun and engaging man as well as a keen fisherman, ensuring there is rarely a shortage of fresh fish aboard Askari.

REGI CROONENBERGHS
RELIEF ENGINEER |

Regi was born in Belgium and spent his childhood years living in the Seychelle Islands and Dubai. He attended boarding school in England and later University in Spain.
In the year 2000 Regi joined a square rigger and sailed from Spain to the Caribbean for his first Atlantic crossing. At the age of 25 Regi singlehanded his own yacht back to Europe and has made the crossing twice more . Other sailing adventures include a passage from NZ across the Southern Ocean to Chile on an 80' maxi yacht. He is now part way through his circumnavigation of the world on his own yacht and is working on a rotational basis as an Engineer aboard Askari between major crossings.
Regi holds an RYA Yachtmaster offshore ticket and is a PADI Divemaster. He is proficient in all water sports and especially loves windsurfing and kiting. A great addition to the Askari crew, he also speaks 4 languages.

ROSIE SMITH
DIVE MASTER / DECKHAND |

Rosie is a New Zealander. She moved to Vanuatu in 1978 to operate a family dive business and has spent the 25 years since then sailing, diving, and chartering in the Pacific and Indian Oceans. She has lived and worked in several different island groups and has a keen interest in island cultures and local history.
Rosie is a qualified dive instructor and holds a RYA Yachtmaster Offshore 200-ton captain's license and all STCW international safety training qualifications.
Her favorite activities include kayaking, diving, snorkeling, sailing, and swimming. She organizes tours and itineraries for land excursions on many of the islands giving charterers insight into local customs and cultural history.

QUINN CORBETT

Quinn is from the great state of Maine, USA and comes from a long line of seafarers. He now resides in a small wine village called Carlton, Oregon, where he owns a successful catering company. This is his second tour of duty on Askari, he was previously on the boat in 2001-2002, when Askari sailed from Michigan to Trinidad. He has been in the industry for over a decade, working in many areas of the Caribbean, Mexico, Alaska, Bahamas, Bermuda, Turks and Caicos, to name a few.
Quinn is a certified PADI rescue diver, a USCG qualified Able Seaman, and has a degree in Culinary Arts from Johnson and Wales University, where he graduated with many honors.
His interests include diving, chess, soccer, hiking, camping and travelling. These days, much of his spare time is spent in learning all he can about production, tasting and food pairing of the local Oregon wines, as well as wines from other regions around the world.
Quinn is passionate about food, and is well versed in many styles of cuisine. He is a wonderful baker and the galley is always full of freshly baked aromas. He enjoys the challenge of creating meals from local sources, emphasizing freshness, quality, and adhering to the principles of the slow food movement.

EMMANUELLE "Emma" Gendron

Emma grew up in the town of Valence, France and completed her formal education nearby. She attended a 4 year course at catering school in France before traveling to England where she worked for a further 4 years as head Waitress at an English countryside Manor in Somerset. Emma then traveled on a one way ticket to Tahiti and has been residing in Polynesia ever since.
She has spent 3 years with the exclusive chain of "Pearl" resorts working in managerial roles throughout the islands groups of the Societies, Tuamotu and also the Marquesas. Emma's French nationality compliments the international Askari crew with a touch of European flair. Emma's hobbies include reading, traveling, snorkeling, horse riding and hiking. Emmas experience in the service industry will ensure that guests feel very comfortable and well taken care of during their holiday onboard.

Anne Boudot

Anne is Emma's cousin and was recruited onto the Askari team during a holiday visit from France. Anne quickly became an integral part of the stewardess department and assists Emma in taking wonderful care of the guests and maintaining the polished interior of Askari to an impeccable standard.
Anne has a gentle manner and an extremely polite disposition, she has experience working in the catering industry in Parisian Hotels and she spent one year in America when she worked as a nanny in Seattle.
